Muslim Teacher Killed in Shooting Inside Aligarh Muslim University Campus
Aligarh, India:
A tragic shooting incident inside the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) campus has left a 43-year-old Muslim teacher dead, sending shockwaves across one of India’s most prestigious educational institutions.
The victim, Rao Danish Ali, was fatally shot on Wednesday night near the canteen located behind the Maulana Azad Library, a usually crowded area of the campus. The incident occurred at approximately 8:50 pm, according to police officials.
Masked Attackers Open Fire Near AMU Library
Rao Danish Ali, who had been teaching at the university-run ABK High School for the past 11 years, was taking an evening walk with two colleagues when the attack took place. According to eyewitness reports, masked attackers approached on a two-wheeler, fired several bullets at close range, and then swiftly fled the scene.
According to Senior Superintendent of Police Neeraj Jadon, the attackers hit the instructor at least three times with bullets, including two to the head, which resulted in serious injuries.
Teacher Declared Dead at Hospital
University staff members and local residents immediately rushed the injured teacher to Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
Ali was a former student of AMU and was well-known among students and colleagues for his dedication to education. His sudden killing has sparked fear and concern among faculty members and students alike.
Police Launch Investigation, CCTV Footage Under Review
According to AMU Proctor Mohd Wasim Ali, the shooting was reported to university authorities around 9:00 p.m., highlighting the fact that the area is still lively in the evening and raising grave concerns about campus security.
Police teams have been positioned across the campus to identify the attackers and pursue their escape route, and CCTV footage from several locations on and around campus is being examined. The probe is also being aided by forensic specialists.
A formal case has been registered, and officials have assured that every effort is being made to arrest those responsible.
