China Urges Full Implementation of Gaza Ceasefire as Israeli Strikes Continue
China has once again stated that the Gaza Ceasefire should be ‘truly and completely put into effect’ while is greatly distressed that according to the ceasefire agreement, Israeli assaults should be forbidden, yet they continue to attack.
Beijing emphasized that peace and regional stability must be restored “as soon as possible”, warning that the humanitarian crisis is worsening by the day.
During a press briefing in Beijing, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian described the situation in Gaza as “extremely fragile and alarming.” His statement came in response to questions regarding fresh Israeli airstrikes that reportedly violated the ceasefire formula agreed upon on October 10.
The renewed violence followed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s warning that Israel would “respond accordingly” after several Israeli soldiers were injured in clashes with Palestinian fighters in Rafah.
Ceasefire diplomacy will hopefully allow for real relief for civilians and Avoid further loss of life. It must be fully adhered. In this regard, diplomacy must, also, be complemented by immediate unhindered humanitarian access, sustainable reconstruction efforts, and, to further stabilize the region.
According to reports published by the Global Times, the first phase of the ceasefire arrangement includes a hostage-prisoner exchange, reconstruction commitments, and discussions on establishing a new administrative framework for Gaza that does not involve Hamas.
Since October 2023, Israeli attacks have killed over 70,000 Palestinians, the majority of them women and children, while at least 171,000 others have been injured. These shocking stats will continue to bring calls for international interveniton.
In order to prevent further escalation, China’s focus is to ensure the ceasefire agreement provides real relief to the people of Gaza.
Beijing’s recent attempts to advocate for a ceasefire in Gaza demonstrate the anger from world superpowers and the lack of positive change in the situation. While many countries have attempted to provide Gaza with humanitarian aid, aid organizations have reported that there are still extreme and dangerous lack of starvation/neglected trauma preventive measures and medical aid.
Beijings point of view in global scenarios has always been tied to equity and legal principles. The two-state solution has been emphasized by China, stating that the Palestinian People have a right to democratic governance, and that they need to not live in poverty, and have the ability to live life without constant trauma. Some experts claim that in recent years, China diplomatically holds more influence in the Middle East with the claim that they are a primary advocate for diplomacy.
Observers point out that Beijing’s position mirrors a certain sentiment around the world. Many countries in Asia, Africa, and Latin America have condemned Israel’s offensives and attacks considering the rising death toll and destruction of civilian infrastructure. There is a deepening humanitarian disaster with the attacks on hospitals, schools, shelters, and refugee camps.
Human Rights Activists claim that, in the absence of a meaningful ceasefire, the international community is left with little more than inaction. China maintains that all concerned, especially the powerful ones, must take all possible steps to defend the humanitarian principles violated by Israel, to achieve a ceasefire, and to allow humanitarian access.
Beijing’s call reflects a deepening sense of urgency: without a ceasefire, the suffering in Gaza will only worsen, and the instability in the region will likely worsen.
